Case Study - School Re-furbishment

Introduction

• This case study concerns the re-furbishment of a listed school building by a national contractor.

• Flow360 was used throughout the process, from intial e-tendering in order to confirm prices (including overheads and profit elements in order to arrive at a confirmed cost), through to works monitoring, variations during works and final sign-off and valuations.

• Implementing Flow360 enabled the main contractor to liaise with his team, their sub-contractors, and the clients without impacting upon their already tight deadlines and heavy workloads.

Comments

• “All processes were very fluent and the system was easy to use”

• “By using Flow360 we achieved immense savings in time during the tendering process.

• “The key was that as a service provider I had access to all the key building information and direct communications with the facilities manager.”

• When considering how this was possible, the main contractor confirmed that Flow360 enabled his team to quickly price items that could be globalised yet also accurately price specific items. Individual overheads such as additional scaffolding could be allocated against specific items. Comparisons between different materials are also quick and easy, making it possible to quickly compare and evaluate the benefit of different flooring materials, for example. Also being able to see the full details of a tender enables a better comparison and clearer understanding of why variances occur.

• Flexibility to cope with the sub-contractor relationship also enabled the main contractor to support local tradespeople and SMEs when managing large projects.
